Spain deployed 250 soldiers on Sunday to help rescue hundreds of drivers who were trapped overnight in vehicles as heavy snowfall cut off several roads. Two companies of specialist soldiers and 95 vehicles were sent to free hundreds of cars stranded on the AP6 highway linking Madrid and the northwestern city of Segovia. The rough weather comes as many Spaniards are travelling home after the end of the Christmas holidays. Meanwhile, heavy snow has cut off the Alpine ski resorts of Cervinia in Italy and Adelboden in Switzerland, as stormy weather continues to batter Europe.
Some travelers are being trapped since Saturday night… Can you imagine that? Soldiers and firefighters used snowplows to try to clear the snow, and distributed blankets and hot drinks to motorists
About 1,000 vehicles were still trapped on Sunday. Some cars have already run out of gas.
